CREW RECRUITMENT & SELECTION

PILOTS, CABIN CREW, INSTRUCTORS & UPGRADER

EU(VO) 965/2012 CAT.GEN.MPA.175(b)

According to EU Regulation 965/2012 AMC1.CAT.GEN.MPA.175(b), which represents a recognized proof procedure, every pilot who is part of a (non-)complex organization is required to complete a psychological assessment. This assessment must be conducted within the 24 months before the commencement of commercial air transport operations and meet the following criteria (a)(1):

  • Cognitive abilities

  • Personality traits

  • Operational and professional competencies

  • Social skills, according to the principles of Crew Resource Management

However, there is an exception: air operators can demonstrate through "Risk Mitigation" according to ORO.GEN.200(a)(3) that a previously conducted psychological assessment is still valid. In such a case, the assessment must comply with the criteria listed above and be conducted under the supervision of an aviation psychologist. Further instructions and support for conducting the assessment can be found in the associated Guidance Material and the IATA Pilot Aptitude Testing Guide (Ed3).
